Sub Groups > Children subject to a child protection assessment, including those at risk of family breakdown likely to lead to significant harm

Vision Statement

To protect from harm children living in the Northern Health and Social Services Board area by securing family support services and by seeking to safeguard the protection of children from abuse and neglect through multi-disciplinary and inter-agency co-operation by:

  • developing a needs-led approach to promotional and safeguarding services;
  • consolidating and further developing the ‘working together’ approach between agencies;
  • promoting high quality services;
  • enhancing public awareness of child protection issues;
  • promoting and encouraging relevant research into abuse and neglect and methods for its prevention and amelioration.

What we have achieved to date;

  • A booklet “Encouraging Better Behaviour” has been widely distributed to all professionals involved in promoting better parenting.
  • A four ACPC communication strategy has been finalised.
  • Leaflets giving advice on internet safety have been produced.
  • A multi-agency/multi-disciplinary training programme was published and implemented.
  • An information and monitoring strategy has been drawn up in conjunction with the Information Sub group.

What we plan to do during 2005-08 includes;

  • Awareness rising within the wider community of the need to safeguard children.
  • Developing effective working relationships between services, professionals and community groups to promote the welfare of children who are at risk of significant harm.
  • Instigating child protection service improvements.
  • Monitoring and auditing on a regular basis.
  • Developing and reviewing Policies and Procedures.
  • Developing and implementing a strategy for multi-disciplinary/inter-agency training.
