| Sub Groups > Children
with disabilities, long term illness or terminal illness who
require services
Vision Statement
All children with disabilities, long term or terminal illness
and their carers should have their needs identified at an
early stage so that they may receive comprehensive co-ordinated
and appropriate support.
What we have achieved to date;
- Two major needs assessment projects which
have shaped service provision:-
- Audit of Summer Scheme Provision for
Children with a Disability; and
- Survey of the needs of children with
a life limiting or terminal illness and their families.
- A series of presentations and workshops
has been arranged to inform the planning process.
- The group contributed to the SSI Inspection
of children with a disability in hospital settings.
- Contribution to the NHSSB Learning Disability
Strategy and the public consultation.
What we plan to do during 2005-08 includes;
- A review of the mental health and well being
needs of children with a physical disability.
- Contribute to a review of the mental health and well being
needs of children with a learning disability.
- Working with leisure centres across the
Board’s area to develop leisure opportunities for
children with a disability.
- Monitoring the transition needs of children
and young people with a disability.
- Monitoring the implementation of the Register
for Children with a Disability.
- Monitoring the number of direct payments
and carers assessments.
- Ensuring that children and young people
with a disability and their families have a voice in the
planning process.
