| Sub Groups > Children
suspended or expelled from school
Vision Statement
To ensure that children of compulsory school age in the
categories identified are receiving an education best suited
to their needs. To ensure that, for children whose formal
education is interrupted, a system is in place to identify,
assess and secure appropriate provision.
What we have achieved to date;
- Information about the numbers of children
expelled or suspended from school have been refined and
are now being analysed annually.
- The numbers of children who do not attend
school all the time have been incorporated into the inter-agency
data-base.
- The chair of this group is a member of the
Regional Group on Expulsions.
- This Sub-Group has initiated a multi-agency
task group to take forward a needs assessment of the health,
education and social needs of children in Traveller Communities
in the area.
What we plan to do during 2005-08 includes;
- Establishing consultation with pupils on
school policies in Post Primary Schools.
- Setting up School Based Care Teams in Post
Primary Schools.
- Establishing one education action zone
in the NEELB area.
- Services targeted to those families whose
children regularly have unauthorised absence from school
will be incorporated into the services data-base.
- The needs assessment of the health, education
and social needs of children in Traveller communities will
be completed and an action plan drawn up.
